International Centre for Classroom Research
The International Centre for Classroom Research (ICCR) was conceived as a major international facility to support the collection, storage and analysis of data (particularly video data) related to the study of learning and teaching in classrooms.
Initially funded with an Australian Research Council Linkage-Infrastructure grant and with the generous support of the University of Melbourne, the ICCR is located at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education, 234 Queensberry St, Carlton. The ICCR is affiliated with the Melbourne Graduate School of Education of the University of Melbourne, and the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER).
The ICCR houses one of the largest collections of classroom data ever accumulated. Its establishment was a consequence of the need to accommodate data from the Learner's Perspective Study (an international study of well-taught mathematics classrooms, currently being undertaken in 16 countries. The ICCR data set now includes video data from secondary mathematics and science classrooms, primary schools, clinical teaching in hospitals, early childhood settings, and a variety of IT-supported learning environments including tertiary settings.
The ICCR hosts a collaborative research program, in which international researchers visit the University of Melbourne to participate in the analysis of the body of data held at the ICCR. The ICCR has hosted visitors from Australia, China, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Israel, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, The Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the USA.
The ICCR offers researchers a state-of-the-art data storage and analysis facility, supported by staff with substantial experience and expertise in the collection, storage and analysis of classroom data (particularly video data). Expressions of interest from researchers wishing to make use of the ICCR's facilities should be made to the Centre Director.
