THE ALIGNMENT PROJECT

Project title – Valued performances in mathematics and science classrooms in Australia, Finland and China: Interrogating the alignment of curriculum, instruction and assessment

Project website

Project Overview
International research leads us to question curricular goals and their realization in instruction and assessment. We need to understand the way in which cultural settings and good practice combine to produce learning outcomes in mathematics and science. The inclusion of Finland and China provides important points of comparison between Australian practice and practices in highly successful comparator settings. This international project uses comparative methods and epistemic stance analysis to study valued performances documented in each setting with respect to curriculum, instruction, standards and assessment, and to critically review the alignment of these four essential elements within each of the three sites and for both mathematics and science.
